I joined this group to share my love of hiking outdoors with my greyhounds and with others. We have greatly enjoyed meeting so many other families and their companions out on hikes!
Axel is a retired racing greyhound who turned 7 in May 2009. He is outgoing and energetic. Abbey is also a retired racing greyhound, who turned 3 in April 2009. She is sweet, playful, and loves the opportunity to be with large groups of dogs.
Axel, Abbey, and I just love to be outside as much as we can. When we care share that time with others, it's doubly so. We hope to continue meeting many more families in the DC metro area and share our favorite hiking places with new hikers.
Axel and Abbey do best on hikes that are around 5 miles with some moderate changes in elevation. We tend to prefer hiking on maintained trails. We love local spots like Roosevelt Island, Carderock & Great Falls National Parks.
Axel and Abbey are both Canine Good Citizens and Ambassadogs for Greyhound Welfare. Axel is well retired and Abbey hasn't made up her mind if she wants to keep up with obedience or agility in any formal way.
NOVA Trail Dogs is a fun way to meet other people and dogs in the middle of beautiful vistas keeping us all close to our local natural resources.

"I think it is always important to ask the hike leader directly when you have any questions about size, safety, and geography of the hike!..."
"With spring upon us, many of our members have generously offered to lead hikes this weekend. From two Potomac riverside walks, the National Arboretum, and a more mountainous trail on Big Schloss, there's a little something for everyone...."
"Wishing you a smooth recovery! You could always skip the hike part of the VA Arboretum in May and just join us for a few glasses of wine up at Barrel Oak Winery. All it requires you to do is sit and relax!"
"The DC Metro area hosts many, many, wonderful multi-use trails throughout our expansive and beautiful region. Some members have recently brought up some safety concerns about dog walking on multi-use trails...."
