Come explore George Washington's Mount Vernon with us! Mount Vernon is very dog friendly and is really a beautiful place to visit. I've been thinking about this for a while but wanted to wait until the off season -if there really is one here- so we won't encounter quite as many crowds. This isn't technically a hike, but we will take some side trips along the two trails found on Mount Vernon grounds, so it still qualifies. ;o) We'll tour gardens and enjoy some very pretty scenery.

Later in the Spring, we'll return to the area for a hike along a portion of the Mount Vernon Trail, which parallels the Potomac River.

-----Update-----
Just to clarify the Fee info mentioned below. The group rate would save us money rather than cost more. It would be $13/person vs. $15/person as individuals. The guided tour typically includes time in the mansion and other buildings (gallery, theater, etc...), but obviously with the dogs we would skip that part and just do the outside portions. They do customize the tour for groups as requested. Guided tours get special parking/entrance location through the 'back door' so to speak and the guide would know a lot more about the grounds and tidbits about George Washington's life than we'll find out on our own via a self-guided tour. A guide expert is $5 per person with a minimum of 20 people.

I'm happy to lead us on a self-guided tour, or if the interest is there, we'll go for the group rate and get a guide. What it boils down to, is it's only $3 more for a guided tour, but we have to come up with 20 committed members for that option.

Since Sky has been going to all the Dog Scout stuff, I'm going to bring just Sirius for this one. Easy/Beginner is more her speed anyway.

    •  This was great. We got to see the enter grounds with the dogs. As you will see from picutre that I will put on. We had a fabulous time. This is a very Dog friendly location. Just outside. Not in the exibits. But you have a chance to see plenty of the site. Greeat time will definately be going back.

As always, it was a pleasure to be out with everyone from NOVA Trail Dogs. This was a great way to explore the grounds at Mt. Vernon.
    •  Lovely weather, spectacular scenery, and a very relaxed pace.

What a superb day,so sunny and pleasant it made you forget that the air was a little chilly. We strolled around the grounds at a very leisurely pace. The dogs were quite a pleasing attraction to other visitors who were far from home and reminded of how much they missed their own canine companions! I also came here for meetup the day it was free on President's Day- could definitely return more often. So I returned to get the year pass for 10 more $s. Such a deal, Roxy and I are both on the pass photo!

What a way to kick off this lovely spring weather! The sky was so clear and bright blue. I really enjoyed the weather, the scenery, the reactions we got from other visitors upon seeing our group and most of all the great company of other members and their doggies. Thank you all for being such a great representation today of what responsible dog owners are. I know it makes a difference when people have positive experiences in such busy, public spaces vs. negative run ins with poorly behaved dogs and owners. Thank you for representing NOVATD in such a positive way!
    •  This was a great idea. Lucy and I really enjoyed meeting everyone (humans and dogs), and we will definitely be back for more NOVA traildog meetups. So sweet of Amy to put together the package of treats. Lucy thought they were yummy! :) Only downside was wishing that we had enough people to have had a guide to get some history, so more people need to join/rsvp yes to events and attend!
