How to find us
"I'll be the one with the gaggle of brindle greyhounds at the trail intersection with the parking lot."
Car, train, and plane traffic will all pass us by as we enjoy a walk along the Mt. Vernon Trail looping from Gravelly Point to Roosevelt Island. This stretch is a paved walk with little change in elevation as it follows the Potomac River. Enjoy winter views of the monuments in our nation's capital.
Beginning hikers can choose to turn back at an earlier point if concerned about the distance. Mile markers along the path will help you plan the distance best for you. Our starting point is located at the end of a National Airport runway and frequent takeoffs can be heard. The trail is a multi-use trail shared by hikers and other travelers such as bikers and skaters. Dogs that are sensitive to loud noise or have issues with bikes and other rolling activity may not enjoy this hike as much as others.
Parking is plentiful at Gravelly Point. The parking lot, however, is only accessible from the northbound lane of the GW Parkway. Plan your travel accordingly. See Google map point provided below.
